What is RoHS Certification

What is RoHS Certification

RoHS certification is an environmental compliance certification obtained after testing and evaluation for compliance with the requirements of the European Union's Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive (RoHS Directive).

ROHS

RoHS stands for “Restriction of Hazardous Substances”.

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is an environmental regulation for electrical and electronic products that aims to restrict the use of certain hazardous substances in products in order to minimize harm to the environment and human health.

RoHS was originally enacted by the European Union in 2003 and officially implemented on July 1, 2006, and has undergone several subsequent revisions (e.g., RoHS 2.0,RoHS 3.0).

Restriction of Hazardous Substances

The main hazardous substances restricted by RoHS (10 to date):

Pb ≤ 0.1%
Hg ≤ 0.1%
Cd ≤ 0.1%
Cr6+ ≤ 0.1%
PBB ≤ 0.1%
PBDE ≤ 0.1%
DEHP ≤ 0.1%
BBP ≤ 0.1%
DBP ≤ 0.1%
DIBP ≤ 0.1%

ROHS Application Areas

RoHS applies to most electrical and electronic products.

  • Almost all electrical and electronic equipment, including:
  • Home appliances (refrigerators, washing machines, etc.)
  • IT and communication equipment (computers, cell phones)
  • Lighting equipment (LED lights, ballasts)
  • Power tools, toys, medical equipment (partially exempted)
